Alessandra Galluzzi teaches Criminal Law at the University of Milan. She originally grew up in Aspromonte and to escape the Milanese concrete jungle would often return to the forest covered mountains where her family has lived for generations. After forest fires raged across the region this summer, what has been left is communities counting the heavy costs to livelihoods and the environment, and Alessandra’s roots are now lost in the flames. Climate change has contributed to hotter summers in Italy, and extreme temperatures will occur more frequently. This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
