Cedric Dupreg is a firefighter. After the fires in the Var Department of Southern France broke out, he was one of the 900 deployed to fight them. Fanned by strong winds off the Mediterranean Sea, the fires burned for four days straight. There is evidence that climate change from burning fossil fuels is intensifying extreme events such as heat waves, droughts and wildfires. The fire took a rampaging path, burning through over 18,000 hectares of natural forest. It was eventually contained, but not until 2 lives had been lost, thousands were evacuated, and centuries of natural forest growth had been destroyed. This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
