Frederique Fournier is a resident of Val De Gilly, Grimaud, France. Over the summer, this region, known for its forests, vineyards and wildlife, was devastated by the forest fires that swept through the French Riviera. Frederique’s home was completely destroyed. She’d always lived with the threat of forest fires. But this was like nothing she’d seen before, taking four days to quell the flames with around 750 firefighters battling the blaze. France is just one of a number of Mediterranean countries to be hit by extreme weather and wildfires, which climate scientists warn will become increasingly common. This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
