Jeff and Tracy Waters felt the full effects of floods made worse by climate change in 2014. Between December 2013 and February 2014, a 10-week sequence of severe storms, lashing rain and gale force winds led to rain fall that was over 200% of the seasonal average. Overnight, their house in Staines was completely flooded. Eventually the fire brigade was pumping out the water and the pair even helped evacuate a neighbour by boat. Contrastingly, during the hot, dry summer that followed, it was hard to imagine how flooded their home was. This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
