Louise Claire Strogen lives in Port Talbot in Wales, a town surrounded by refineries and energy plants. She sees the effects of climate change every time she enters her kitchen to prepare food. Due to the burning of fossil fuels in her area, every surface she owns is permanently covered in black dust. She worries how people with lung conditions and breathing problems would cope in this environment and the inevitable long-term health effects of living there long-term. Public Health Wales estimates between 1,000-1,400 deaths per year in Wales can be attributed to exposure to air pollution. This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
