September 2021 was Earth’s fifth-warmest September since global record-keeping began in 1880 and when the heatwave hit Lesbos, it was Greece’s hottest in the last 43 years. Raziha Ibrahimi an Afghan refugee living in a tent, didn’t even have access to clean water and lay thirsty for days, covered in sweat and dirt. The drastically changing climate had also contributed to an extremely unusual cold winter only 6 months before caused, say scientists, by a “mix of natural random weather and human-caused climate change.” This is the alarming reality of the climate crisis.
